BASA EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE is a trust whose objective is to establish and run formal independent primary and secondary schools. As a Non-Profit Organisation, BASA is strategically positioned to provide low-fees schooling. Low-fee schooling is one intervention criterion followed by BASA in addressing classroom shortages in the previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa.
The first BASA school was established in central Johannesburg in 1992. To date, BASA offers 5 schools in Gauteng.
BASA schools are registered with the Gauteng Department of Education. Although BASA has its own educational standards and benchmarks, it offers a government curriculum (CAPS) in all Grades (Grade R to matric). Learners sit for National Annual Assessments (Grade 3 to 9) and National Senior Certificate examinations in matric.
For the past 5 years, BASA schools have produced excellent matric results (between 90% and 100%) with distinctions and exemptions. In the 2005 academic year, BASA achieved a 100% pass rate, with an accolade certificate from the National Minister of Education. BASA matriculants have consistently, over the years, enrolled in challenging faculties, such as actuarial science, commerce, and engineering at universities around the country.
