It is critical that schools plan and prepare to mitigate community transmission. As the global
outbreak evolves, schools should prepare for the possibility of sporadic community-level
outbreaks, as well as the possibility of stay-at-home or lockdown orders for learners, staff, whole
classes or grades, or the entire school, if recommended by health officials. Decisions regarding
appropriate public health interventions should always be made in consultation with public health
officials who have access to all of the relevant latest information. These decisions include:
a) whether learners or educators should stay at home for a period of time; and b) whether
learners in sections of a school or the entire school should be dismissed from attendance.
