The Pan African Schools Debating Championships tournament is an annual tournament held in Johannesburg. It hosts debate teams from all over Africa and beyond. It allows high school learners to engage in debates on topics relating to Africa and the whole world. Teams can be made up of learners from the same school or different schools. For the 2019 tournament, Abel Kayeye from Basa Freedom School teamed up with Siyabonga Ndebele of Basa Tutorial Institute and another learner from a different school.

After an intense five days of debating, they were crowned champions with Abel Kayeye as the best speaker of the tournament and Siyabonga Ndebele coming a close second. Abel Kayeye did not only top the PASDC but also captained Freedom to DBE provincial championships where he also became the best speaker. He also made it to Team South Africa that was supposed to go to Worlds Schools Debating Championships in 2020 but the tournament was canceled due to corona.
